LUKE RAMSEY: OFF LINES

SEPTEMBER 12 - 26 2013

Luke Ramsey is a Pender Island based artist that is internationally recognized for his intricate drawing style. Over the last decade he has worked on a wide spectrum of projects that have helped him achieve a loyal base of collectors always eager to see what is next.

Ramsey's international reputation grew, in part, out of an artist residency program called Islands Fold that he co-founded. Artists from around the globe are invited to Pender Island to collaborate on projects. Some of these projects have lead Luke to be invited to exhibit abroad in Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Tokyo, L.A, Chicago and New York. Additionally, he has contributed drawings to such publications as The New York Times, Princeton Architectural Press, Juxtapoz and The Walrus.

Artist's Statement:

Sand drawn lines are for crossing

Schools teach children to colour within the lines.

Society shows adults how to get in line.

Social networks connect people online.

Sometimes interconnection lies on a time line.

Somehow it speaks truth when it’s offline.

Straight lines can get crazy.

Smooth lines can be wavy.
