This exhibition surveys paintings, watercolours, and printmaking from the 1950s to the 2020s, representing four distinct stylistic categories: West Coast Landscapes, The Land/Foothills, Hard Edge Abstracts, and the White Series. Examining this broad range of work reveals that Tanabe pushed new boundaries from the very beginning. As his influences changed over the decades, each new style of work was thoroughly considered—both within the context of international developments in art and through a deeply personal lens.
