2013 CAPE DORSET PRINT COLLECTION

OCTOBER 18 2013

This is the first year that Madrona Gallery has been asked to take part in the print collection. We are honored to be a part of such a historically important body of work. This year there are 34 prints by 11 artists. This includes 7 final works by the iconic Kenojuak Ashevak. Her passing earlier in 2013 marked the end of an era for Inuit art. She was the most famous and last remaining member of the original group of artists that worked with James Houston to establish the Co-op and the international reputation of the print collection. There are a number of new artists in this years collection that all present a unique voice for art in the north. Nicotye Samayualie's work has already gained an international reputation for her contemporary take on the details of day to day life in the north. Also included are veterans of the collection Tim Pitseolak, Qavavau Manumie, Pitaloosie Saila, Ohotaq Mikkigak and others.
