Nicotye Samayualie
/ Michael Warrenb. 1983 -
Kinngait, Nunavut
Nicotye is an emerging artist from Kinngait. Her drawings reveal her fascination with patterns, both in collections of man made objects and in the landscape. Her drawings often depict everyday items that are essential to Inuit life, such as the contents of a fishing shelf, camping supplies, or a sewing kit. Her stylized landscapes allow the viewer a colourful glimpse of the north through out the seasons. Taken together, this body of work represents a connection between Inuit people and their landscape, mediated by material culture.
