Abraham Anghik Ruben

B. 1951, Paulatuk, NWT

Abraham Anghik Ruben is a renowned Inuit artist whose work has been exhibited and celebrated internationally. Inspired by legends, myths, Inuit traditions, and his own lived experiences, Ruben is a master of storytelling through sculpture. Combining aspects of multiple Northern cultures, Ruben's expertly carved sculptures serve as a reflection of his own heritage and family history, both Inuit and Nordic. Ruben recognizes the similarities between these ancient cultures and interprets their stories in new ways through his work.

Throughout his extensive career, Ruben has displayed his work across Canada and the world. His sculptures have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC, Rockwell Museum of Western Art NY, the Royal Ontarios Museum, and many other institutions. His work is included in various public and private collections including the National Gallery of Canada, House of Commons of Canada, The Vancouver Art Gallery, and Canadian Embassy in Washington DC.
