Ray Mead

Ray Mead is considered a key figure in the development of contemporary painting in Canada. Immigrating to Canada from England in the 1940s, he became a member of the pioneering Painters 11 in the 1950s, going on to develop a style recognized for its energetic brushwork and bold use of colour and space. Mead's works are featured in the collections in numerous public art galleries including the Art Gallery of Algoma, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada.
