April Ponsford takes inspiration from the nature around her home on Vancouver Island. Whether it’s depicting the crashing of waves on a beach to clouds swirling on a stormy day, she has an innate ability to translate her experiences of nature onto canvas. Ponsford’s paintings, much like the natural world, are full of hidden spaces that reveal themselves upon deeper observation.

April Ponsford's work expresses a complex range of experiences that reference identity, the environment, ageing, grief and perseverance. This collection of 20 new paintings are unified through the artists technique of building up thick layers of impasto then wearing them away. Ponsford uses this technique to mimic experiences in her own life where moments build and fade leading to memories that withstand time.
