Susie Saila has established herself as a leading upcoming artist in Kinngait NU. She has been immersed in art her entire life. Her father is acclaimed contemporary carver Toonoo Sharky R.C.A. Her grandfather is Meekeeseetee Saila, Her great Grandfather is Pauta Saila R.C.A. Susie started drawing in 2018 and quickly established a distinct and notable style.
Her compositions often combine subject matter. For example, a landscape will be found in an owl's wing or the body of a bird will also be an egg. She minimizes form and perspective to emphasize pattern and colour. This adds a fresh perspective to established subjects through visual punning, a vibrant palette and whimsical sensibility which have helped make her voice distinct.
