Alan Briks

Briks brings decades of experience to his plein air paintings. Over the course of his career he has worked in a variety of media which allows him to bring diverse influences to his practice. Briks is a well established leader in art therapy. Additionally he brings a deep awareness of art movements of the 20th century. Using his background and education as a foundation, Briks is an intuitive painter. His gestural style communicates the impact specific locations have inspired, allowing him to focus on the movement and energy of place.

Birks holds a Master's degree in Art Therapy from Concordia. He has taught various courses at University of Calgary and the Alberta College of Art and Design, and has contributed to art therapy literature and research. Alan currently teaches on a sessional basis with the Art Department, University of Calgary.
