April Ponsford takes inspiration from the nature around her home on Vancouver Island. Whether it’s depicting the crashing of waves on a beach to clouds swirling on a stormy day, she has an innate ability to translate her experiences of nature onto canvas. Ponsford’s paintings, much like the natural world, are full of hidden spaces that reveal themselves upon deeper observation.

Bowen Island based artist Susannah Montague creates sculptures that push the boundaries of ceramics as a medium. Juxtaposing the beautiful and macabre, she uses historical references and contemporary life to create vessels for her narratives. Montague draws upon current socio-political events, feminism, and her own personal experiences while demonstrating an exceptional understanding of technique and the history of ceramics.

Joe Coffey’s talent as an observer of life in all its forms enables him to capture moments of humour, metaphor, and mystery. His animal characters leap out of the bounds of illustration in playfully theatrical contrasts. Technically dazzling and full of surprises, Coffey’s paintings upend the natural world to remind us of what makes us truly human.
