John was born in Barrie, Ontario, later moved to the Toronto area and now resides in Central Ontario. He displayed a keen interest in art from an early age and studied at the Ontario College of Art, and later the Art Students League of New York. In over thirty years devoted to painting, the Canadian landscape has provided an unending variety of subject matter, and continues to be a constant source of inspiration for his art.

John Lennard's work has been featured in the Canadian Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada. His work is in collections internationally. Lennard is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists.
