Janice Colbert

Janice Colbert is a Toronto based artist with a history in textile design. Janice uses her experience with textiles as a main influence in her paintings. "In her current series she has returned to her research on textiles and antique quilts in her series GRID PATTERNS. The work represents not the showpiece quilt but instead the process of struggle required for utility quilts. The struggle is to assemble old clothing, to improvise and problem-solve when there is not enough fabric to sew a cohesive quilt pattern. She interprets why the limitations have produced visually engaging work."   Janice studied at OCAD and is the recipient of the Ontario Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant.
